The seventy-fourth session of the Tennessee State Association will be remembered for the good fellowship, a warm spirit, harmonious business, and especially great preaching. Delegates and visitors heard a total of five messages on the subject of "Grace." Garnet Reid, Moderator Randy Riggs, Frank Bratcher, Jeff Davis, and Greg Whitehead all spoke on different aspects of God’s marvelous grace. Each message was very powerful. Reports were given by all of the state boards and every national department brought "greetings" during the three days in Pigeon Forge. The congregation included former promotional director, Dr. and Mrs. Charles Thigpen; home and international missionaries; a military chaplain; pastors; deacons; and a host of lay men and women. Dwayne James and Doug Little led the music in the worship services which included a variety of special music including a quartet of young men who live near the banks of the Mississippi River to a young lady who was saved in a church high atop Ripshin Mountain in what is believed to be the highest elevation of any FWB church in Tennessee, the Morgan Chapel FWB Church.
FWBBC hosted an informal ice cream social on Monday night with President Matt Pinson explaining the reasons behind the proposed name change at the college which will be voted on at the national convention in Memphis in July. The Tennessee Women Active for Christ hosted a time of refreshments after the Tuesday evening service. On Tuesday morning, a check for $42,000 was presented to Executive Secretary Keith Burden as Tennessee does it’s part to host the 2012 convention in Memphis. The convention fund will remain open until July and all contributions will be forwarded to help defray the cost of the convention.
Delegates passed resolutions reaffirming our opposition to alcoholic beverages and a resolution to declare the 15th of each month a day of fasting and prayer for our state and national ministries. Everyone is encouraged to send prayer requests to the promotional director at glennposton or by calling the state office at 615-715-0521.
A committee was appointed to resolve an issue concerning reporting of financial compensation for key personnel of state boards. New board members were elected or reaffirmed for each board. All of the general officers of the state association were re-elected to another term. Marjorie Workman and Eddie Hodges who are on the Steering Committee for next year’s national convention asked for help in hospitality and prayer ministries for the convention. If you would be willing to help with hospitality (men or women) and would like to volunteer, please let Mrs. Workman know at workman64 . Bro. Hodges is asking all moderators of associations/quarterly meetings to pray for the convention especially the choosing of speakers when the Executive Committee of the national meets in December. For more information you may contact Brother Hodges at elhodgesjr .
Next year’s convention will be held at the same place in Pigeon Forge on November 12 – 14. Mark your calendar.
